Graphics card, video card, or VGA (Video Graphics Adapter) Output Card is a device whose job is to process data into graphical or text display on the monitor screen. VGA serves to connect the computer system with monitor. VGA card supporting applications that require drivers. Driver serves as an intermediary for the operating system and graphics card.
Components VGA card:
1. GPU (Graphics Processing Unit)
GPU is a processor of a video card, and serves for processing the image data to be displayed on the monitor screen.
2. Video Memory (VRAM)
Serves as a temporary storage before and after processing the data on the GPU. At present, generally with a capacity between 256MB to 2048MB.
3. RAMDAC (Random Access Memory Digital - Analog Converter) Function transform digital images into analog signals to be used by the monitor.
4. bus Interface Serves to connect the motherboard to the graphics card. Currently, the default is PCI-Express.
5. Display Interface
Serves to connect the graphics card and monitor. There are many display port, however, which is often used for, among others, D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI.
6. cooling fan (cooler)
Serves to cool the GPU.
